Homemade Noodles*

My children just LOVE spaghetti, or actually anything with red sauce for that matter,
so this of course is their most requested dish.
On occasion we make it a group effort by having them make the pasta.
It gives them something to do while I work on the sauce ;-)
Not only that, but, what kid doesn't like playing with dough???

This recipe is fun, easy and very very family friendly*

Homemade Noodles*

Ingredients
1 1/4 cups flour (whole wheat can be substituted for 1/2 for that added nutrition!)
3 Eggs (at room temperature)
3 tablespoons olive oil
1-2 tsp salt (to taste)

Directions:
Sift the flour and salt together in a bowl.  In a separate bowl combine the wet ingredients, and gradually mix into the flour & salt mixture.
Remove from bowl onto a lightly floured surface. Knead. This is where the kids come in! Let them just get in there and have a ball...a dough ball that is ;-)
Once the dough is well combined wrap it in plastic wrap and set in the refrigerator to rest a bit. Actually about 30 minutes.  Once the dough is rested, place on a well floured surface and prepare to roll! Just like you would cookie mixture, start from the middle and work your way out until the dough is about 1/4 of an inch thick. Take a pizza cutter,or better yet, let the KIDS take a pizza cutter and cut the dough to desired width, my kids tend to like it a bit thicker than spaghetti. Once the dough is sliced, it's ready to go in a big pot of boiling water. Cook for about 6 minutes or just until al dente and pair it with your favorite sauce!

A bit messy...but when you have kids in the kitchen it's expected!

Kneading away!

Rollin ... Rollin.... (can't help but hear Ms. Tina in the background~)
and yes, that's buzz lightyear ;-)  kids...
Slicing, a pizza cutter would be substituted here,
but unfortunately I think mine got thrown away in the pizza box!

 Aren't those LOVELY!

Yuuup They agree!
and yuuuup that's spinach...that sauce is just amazing for hiding those veggies!!!
Now THAT"S the face of a satisfied customer!

His costume got a bit too warm by the end of the kneading and rolling,
He wanted nothing to stand in the way of him and his pasta ;-)

Until next time...

don't forget to

taste. share. spread the love...

  1. Looks like lots of fun. It seems like noodles always taste better when you make them yourself. I bet my niece and nephew would enjoy this project.

  3. Make these easier to cut if you sprinkle rolled out dough with flour, then roll up, and slice. Then you can have the kids unroll them to spread out to dry.

    Way easier!!
